To most of us, June 2009 seems quite a while ago. But not, apparently, to the public servants employed by Fair Work Australia. FWA is a creation of the Gillard Labor government and came into operation on January 1, 2010, assuming all the functions previously held by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and the Australian Industrial Registry.
Fair work for some, but small business is not so easy
Gerard is attempting to rewrite history in his own worldview once again. “Fair Work Australia” was a creation of the Rudd Labor Government, with a mandate to do so on the back of the Howard Liberal-National Government’s implementation of their own workplace reforms. The community saw these as overstepping the mark and formed a core part of the swing back to Labor - in 2007. Gillard took the Prime Minister’s post in June 2010 (and hence the government of the day became referred to as the Gillard Labor Government, not the Rudd Labor Government) - six full months after the operationalisation date (as published by Gerard).
